Consumers complained about moldy and stinky washing machines for years. Time is now running out to get compensated for the problem. You have until Tuesday, October 11, 2016, to request compensation as part of a class action settlement with Whirlpool, Kenmore, and Maytag front-loading washers. With many class action lawsuits, you don’t need to do anything to qualify for compensation. This is different. You must act to get money back with the moldy washing machine class action lawsuit.
If you have one of these moldy and stinky washing machines, you can receive a $50 refund if the problems started within five years of buying a washing machine included in the settlement. If you already received money from Sears or Whirlpool, your refund will be reduced based upon how much you previously received.
If you paid to repair or replace your stinky washer, you could get up to $500. To qualify for this, you need to have proof of repairs or replacement.
Washing machines qualifying for money
The lawsuit covers machines manufactured between 2001 and 2010, and alleges the washers did not adequately self-clean themselves of laundry residue leading to mold and mildew. That caused odor issues and ruined laundry. Whirlpool & Sears Roebuck and Co deny they did anything wrong.
You can get a cash payment, a rebate to help on the purchase of a new washer or dryer, or reimbursement for out-of-pocket costs you paid to deal with the mold or odor problems.
There are many models included in this recall. Click through the slideshow to see if your model washing machine is included.
